“I’ll tell my grandkids”: McRae left in awe of Daicos brilliance

“That’s going to be one of the great stories when I’m older.”

I'll tell my grandkids I coached Nick Daicos': McRae

After an exciting one-point victory over Brisbane, Collingwood star Nick Daicos has once again pulled a rabbit out of a hat to keep his prospects of making the club finals alive.

The Brownlow Medal favourite put his side on his back in the second quarter, hitting two goals from 13 disposals to pull his club back into the game despite a poor start by both the Pies and Daicos in the first period.

In the press conference following the game, Pies coach Craig McRae acknowledged he simply watched and enjoyed the spectacle.

“Wow, I think I’ll tell my grandkids I coached Nick Daicos,” stated McRae.

When I’m older, that will rank among the best stories ever. What a teammate.

“Seeing someone assert themselves in the game is just pleasant.

“All of us sitting on the bench are simply saying, ‘Wow!’ without laughing. Everybody is amazed.

“We’ve got front-row seats to the Nick Show, and he’s a remarkable player.”

Recruit Lachie Schultz then joined Daicos in the second half, kicking two of the final three majors to help Collingwood steal the win.

RuckmanWith 15 disposals and 30 hit-outs against the formidable Oscar McInerney, Darcy Cameron maintained his excellent run.

Two-time Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale was held to a meek performance by veteran Steele Sidebottom, who is expected to stay at the club until 2025, while John Noble played a crucial role in the triumph.

The Pies, who are requesting three defeats to improve their chances of making the finals, will be hoping that Sunday’s results involving Carlton, Hawthorn, and the Western Bulldogs go their way.
