According to John Eustace, Coventry City is a “prime example” of how a football club should be established. The former captain of the Sky Blues, who began his playing career there under Gordon Strachan’s tutelage, still harbors strong feelings for the team.
The youthful manager, who is just starting out in management, is getting ready to take on Mark Robins and his side that has been decimated by injuries as Blackburn Rovers look to secure a crucial three points to keep the Lancashire club in the Championship. Although Rovers are just three points ahead of Birmingham City, the team that fired him earlier in the season and replaced him with the more well-known Wayne Rooney, they are currently in 19th place.
When two games remain, the Blues are third from the bottom. Gary Rowett’s team visits fellow relegation contenders Huddersfield this weekend in preparation for their final-day match at St Andrew’s against Norwich. On the last day, Rovers play Leicester City away after hosting Coventry.

Concerning the Sky Blues, who this season advanced to the FA Cup semi-final but seem to have narrowly missed the playoffs, Eustace responded, “I think they are a prime example of how to build.”
“To be effective, it’s critical that you don’t make changes too rapidly. You cannot purchase; you must build. It will eventually catch up to you. You must build correctly and lay the foundations. They still have a few players from League Two and have done that incredibly successfully.
“It’s a good football team that has been given the chance to grow and succeed, but they also need to sell players to raise money for the team. They’ve executed it correctly.
The 44-year-old saw City’s 3-2 loss to Hull during a midweek visit to the CBS Arena.
Eustace told the Lancashire Telegraph, “I went and watched the game on Wednesday night; they’re a fantastic team with a good squad.” They’ve had a lot of playing time lately, and we have as well. We don’t think they won’t be a formidable opponent in this game.
“I’m sure Coventry will pose a serious challenge to us because they have outstanding players.” We did it during the Bristol week, so I don’t think they will be lanky. They may alter the team because they have a wealth of talented players. They rested the appropriate individuals and added several talented players at halftime. We’ll be prepared for what promises to be a really difficult game.
Eustace reflected on his seven-year tenure at Highfield Road, which spanned from 1996 to 2003, saying, “I played with some fantastic players in the Premier League with them.” I had some amazing managers with me at work. I made a lot of acquaintances at that club, which is undoubtedly the one that offered me my first chance.
They are a sizable team with well-built facilities, and the manager has been there for six or seven years. They are benefiting from having a team that has traveled with him on that adventure. It’s a decent football team.
