With just weeks remaining of the Championship season, clubs will be readying themselves for the subsequent summer transfer window.
Coventry City will no doubt be one club making contingency plans, as their divisional status is not yet secure, with Mark Robins’ side still in with an outside chance of reaching the play-offs for a second successive season alongside their FA Cup exploits, where they will take on Manchester United at Wembley in the semi-finals.
The Sky Blues will be working under different budgetary restraints depending on whether they decide to remove their 23-year ban from the top flight or continue as a second-tier team for an additional season. In any case, FLW has examined what can make the CBS Arena’s transfer window a “dream” one.
Marc Leonard joins
One man who has been continuously linked with a potential move to this part of the West Midlands in recent times comes in the form of Marc Leonard, with the young midfielder shining for Northampton Town once again this campaign.
Leonard would not only be a wise addition to the City midfield, but it also fits with their strategy of going after some of League One’s top players, including Ephron Mason-Clark, who will also combine with the rest of the team in preseason after his signing from Peterborough United.
The Scotland U21 international would view the chance of a move to the second tier as the next step in his development before becoming a mainstay in and around the Brighton first-team setup, having more than proved himself at Sixfields in the last season and a half to date.
Having accumulated over ten goal contributions this term from midfield, it’s no surprise that Coventry, alongside Preston and Portsmouth, are continuing to monitor his progress ahead of a pending summer transfer saga.
Callum O’Hare signs a new deal
It would be a dream situation if Coventry were able to sign Callum O’Hare to a new contract, even though many people think the only way they could accomplish that would be if the Sky Blues were promoted. This unlikely scenario would need to be sorted by June 30th.
Given his talent and the possible sum the club could seek in the coming years, it would be devastating to lose the playmaker on a free transfer, even if they are unsuccessful in doing so.
The Sun recently revealed that the 25-year-old has rejected City’s most recent contract offer, turning off offers from Everton, Southampton, and other teams. Since returning from a long-term injury in October, the player has scored nine goals and provided four assists. O’Hare is reportedly considering Fulham, Burnley, and SPFL powerhouses Rangers and Celtic as summer options.
Despite the recent rejection, it wouldn’t exactly hurt the Sky Blues hierarchy to go in with one final audacious offer, as many would argue the club has nothing to lose in this particular regard.
