Coventry City is unquestionably a team that is improving.

Even though they were only a League Two team in 2017–18, the team has continuously developed since then. gaining two promotions and becoming known as a strong Championship side ever since.

After seven seasons of arduous struggle, the team made it to the Wembley play-off final last season, and while they were heartbreakingly close to winning the Premier League, they lost on penalties.

Coventry City faced some amazing talent throughout those years in the Premier League and the former first division.

Nevertheless, one player in particular had an amazing goal record against the Sky Blues and liked playing against them.

Of course, we are referring to the legendary Alan Shearer of Newcastle United.

Although Shearer is regarded by many as a Newcastle United icon and one of the best strikers England has ever produced, Coventry City supporters can understandably harbor negative recollections of the Geordie.

Over the years, Shearer made 25 appearances against the club and scored an astounding 18 goals, according to Transfermarkt.

As a result, he has scored the most goals against the team in club history, surpassing only Ian Rush (15) and Tony Cottee (14).

Given the aforementioned data, Shearer’s playing days are undoubtedly finished, and Coventry City supporters will be relieved that if the team ever makes it back to the top division, Shearer’s playing days are well behind him.

It is interesting to note that Shearer’s goal-scoring prowess against the Sky Blues was not immediate.

We are aware that Shearer played for Blackburn and Southampton before to becoming a legend at Newcastle; it was during his time with the Saints that he met Coventry for the first time.

Shearer actually played nine games against the Sky Blues between 1988–89 and 1991–92, but he only managed one goal.

In 1991, he scored his lone goal for the Saints in a 1-1 tie in the FA Cup fourth round. This forced a rematch, which Southampton won 2-0.

After Shearer joined Blackburn Rovers in 1992, everything changed right away. In his first matchback against Coventry, the striker scored.

Shearer played for Blackburn against Coventry eight times in all, scoring nine goals in those games, including a hat-trick in Rovers’ 5-1 victory in 1995–96.

Sadly for Coventry, Shearer’s goals did not stop once he moved to Newcastle in 1996.
