Derby County interested in ‘outstanding’ League One striker, ‘good chance’ he’ll move this week – journalist

Derby County are interested in signing a League One striker who could move before Friday’s deadline.

With less than 48 hours of the 2024 summer transfer window remaining, The Rams are cutting it close in their pursuit of a new striker.

Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates have arrived at Pride Park this summer but it is already clear after three league games of 2024/25 that more centre-forward reinforcements will be needed if the club are to avoid relegation.

Paul Warne has been frustrated by Derby’s attempts to sign a striker over the last week but they continue to be linked with new names.

Derby hold an interest in Tom Cannon, who is allowed to leave Leicester City following the arrival of Jordan Ayew.

Cannon is also being targeted by other Championship clubs and may be out of the price range of the newly promoted team.

Elsewhere, Derby have enquired about Preston North End striker Will Keane but like with Cannon, they face plenty of competition, including from Wrexham.

Derby County like Victor Adeboyejo

Now, another star has been linked with a move to Pride Park ahead of the transfer window closing.

Victor Adeboyejo is a name Derby fans should already be familiar with after their promotion battle with Bolton Wanderers last season.

Bolton failed to win promotion to the Championship and it could now cost them a key name.

Speaking live on talkSPORT 2 radio, journalist Darren Witcoop claimed that Derby like Adeboyejo and there is a ‘good chance’ he will leave Bolton this summer.

He said: “There’s been interest this summer [in Adeboyejo]. I know that Plymouth were certainly interested in him. I know Oxford are big fans, Derby like him as well.

“I think there’s a good chance he’ll go this summer and he’s proven in League One that he can score goals and I think whether he can step up, we will soon see but he’s a real handful and I think it would be a good acquisition for a lot of teams in the Championship.”

What will Victor Adeboyejo bring to Derby County

With Jackson and Yates struggling in the early part of the campaign, it is clear Derby need to find a more clinical goalscorer.

And they could be about the get that with the signing of 26-year-old Adeboyejo.

The Nigerian joined Bolton from Burton Albion in January 2023 and though he took some time to get up to speed at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, he had an excellent 2023/24.

Adeboyejo scored 10 times in 35 League One outings last term and hit the ground running in the current season with a goal on the opening day.

After that performance, manager Ian Evatt, as per The Bolton News, labelled the centre-forward as ‘outstanding’.
