The Detroit Red Wings have announced that they have signed Moritz Seider to a seven-year, $59.85 million contract extension.
The contract will pay Seider $8,550,000 on an average annual value (AAV) through the 2030-31 season when he will become an unrestricted free agent.

The 23-year-old tallied nine goals and 33 assists for 42 points in 82 games last season, ranking second among Red Wings defenders behind Shayne Gostisbehere.
Seider is entering his fourth year with Detroit after being selected No. 6 overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. Seider made his NHL debut in 2021-22 where he racked up seven goals and 43 assists for 50 points in 82 games and claimed the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s Top Rookie. Seider became the first German-born player to win the Calder and the first Red Wing to win the Calder since Roger Crozier did so in 1964-65.
Throughout his three years in Detroit, the Zell, Germany native has registered 21 goals and 113 assists for 134 points in 246 games.
Prior to his NHL debut, Seider spent time in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) with Rögle BK where he tallied 28 points in 41 games, winning the SHL Defenseman of the Year. Seider also spent time in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) with Adler Mannheim and won the DEL Championship, he was named the DEL Rookie of the Year that same season.
With Seider’s new contract now signed, one interesting note is that captain Dylan Larkin’s AAV will remain the highest on the Red Wings, sitting at $8.7 million.
Detroit will faceoff against the Pittsburgh Penguins in their season opener on Oct. 10, to kick off the 2024-25 season.
