Vasco da Gama president Pedrinho said on Friday that the club is in talks to capture Philippe Coutinho from Aston Villa.
The Brazil international is presently on loan at Qatari club Al-Duhail and must return to Aston Villa in the summer. Unai Emery has no plans to incorporate him in his plans for next season, and the Villans will hunt for a permanent solution in the next window.
According to ESPN in Brazil, the 31-year-old wants to leave Aston Villa, despite having a contract until 2026.
Coutinho graduated from Vasco da Gama’s academy and is ‘keen’ to return to his former club during the summer window.
All sides are in favour of a transfer, and Vasco’s president has stated that conversations have taken place; yet, the deal is not uncomplicated.
Vasco da Gama is engaging in a legal struggle with 777 Partners over who will run the club. The latter, who are experiencing financial difficulties, have not been able to keep their pledges.
According to ESPN, the ongoing dispute between Pedrinho’s team and 777 Partners ‘had an impact’ on the transfer negotiations of the Aston Villa-owned player. Coutinho is hopeful that a solution can be found, allowing him to return to Vasco da Gama.
The report also states that the negotiations have taken place with persons close to the player rather than his agent, Giuliano Bertolucci. ESPN claims the latter ‘isn’t permitted to participate’ without providing any other explanation.
