BREAKING-Dockers’ fresh blow adds to injury crisis

The Dockers are light on forward options this week.

Fremantle are hopeful that forwards Mikayla Morrison, Tara Stribley, and Serena Gibbs will return from injury in about a week, as they scramble to replace star Aine Tighe, who has been ruled out for the season due to a ruptured ACL.

Adding to their injury woes, the Dockers announced on Tuesday that defender Jae Flynn will miss at least one week after entering concussion protocols following a collision with Eliza McNamara during the match against Melbourne. Flynn experienced delayed concussion symptoms after the incident.

Tighe’s season-ending injury, which occurred during Fremantle’s narrow win over Melbourne, is a major setback to the club’s finals aspirations.

The Dockers’ injury list includes former Carlton player Serena Gibbs, forward Mikayla Morrison, and utility Tunisha Kikoak, who injured her shoulder in the match against Adelaide two weeks ago. Kikoak is listed as a test for Fremantle’s match against St Kilda on Friday, while Gibbs, Stribley, and Morrison are expected to return next week.

Fremantle will take on Geelong at GMHBA Stadium next Tuesday, in a quick Victorian double-header. Dockers’ head of AFLW high-performance, Corey Morris, mentioned that Morrison could be available for selection if she clears training on Wednesday. He also expects Stribley and Gibbs to make significant progress this week.

“Stribley started running again over the weekend. We’ll continue her progression this week and hope for a return next week,” Morris said. “Similar to Tara, Gibbs is likely a week away. She participated in full football training last week, so we’ll look for her to do the same again this week and aim for a return.”

The Dockers are hopeful reinforcements will arrive soon. Pictured: Mikayla Morrison.

“[She] (Flynn) unfortunately entered concussion protocols over the weekend, so we’ll be monitoring her progress through the protocols over the next week or two,” said Morris.

Additionally, West Coast will be missing Jaide Britton and Sophie McDonald for their upcoming clash against Greater Western Sydney, as both players are also in concussion protocols.

The team has listed Abbygail Bushby, Sasha Goranova, and former Dockers forward Roxy Roux as test cases ahead of the match.
