The Hawks, despite a flat opening quarter that saw them trailing by 21 points, clawed their way back with a dominant second half, ultimately winning 13.9 (87) to 10.10 (70) at the MCG.

The GIANTS came out strong, with early goals and fierce pressure around the ball. Hawthorn, however, seemed to channel the resilience often associated with their storied history.

As former coach Alastair Clarkson once said, “Resilience is built when you’re prepared to suffer for a cause greater than yourself,” and the Hawks embodied that spirit, refusing to buckle under the early onslaught.

The comeback was sparked by emerging star Jai Newcombe, who collected 30 disposals and provided a key presence in the midfield.

Captain James Sicily led by example in defense, shutting down GWS’s attacking options and inspiring his teammates with crucial intercept marks.

In the forward line, Mitch Lewis’ four goals were vital in keeping the Hawks within striking distance before they wrestled back control.

Hawthorn’s pressure around the contest lifted in the second half, particularly during a dominant third quarter that saw them kick five unanswered goals.

The GIANTS struggled to regain momentum, and Hawthorn’s defensive unit stood tall under repeated attacks.

This victory marks a key moment in Hawthorn’s season as they continue to build a youthful side filled with promise.

If they can maintain this level of intensity and resolve, the Hawks look primed to rise up the ladder and re-establish themselves as a force in the AFL.
