Nissan Injury Update: Sicily nears return
James Sicily will look to complete a full week of training before a decision is made around his availability for this Sunday’s Round 11 match against the Brisbane Lions.
Hawthorn Captain James Sicily will look to complete a full week of training before a decision is made around his availability for this Sunday’s Round 11 match against the Brisbane Lions at Marvel Stadium.
Sicily has missed the past two games after dislocating his shoulder in the Round 8 win over the Western Bulldogs.
Hawthorn High Performance Manager Peter Burge said Sicily’s training load was building strongly.
“We made a decision as a medical and coaching team that we wanted to get some more exposures to that type of physical contact before we took the next step to match play,” Burge said.
“Over the weekend we did some more with him, he’ll get a little more tomorrow and we have a main session later in the week and that will give him four full sessions of full contact work and we will make that decision on Friday on his availability.”
Meantime, key forward Mitch Lewis is set to resume running on the Alter-G treadmill this week as he slowly ramps up his rehab following a knee complaint.
“We had to take a step back and we had to unload him all together for the past week and he’s just in the process now of slowly reloading through Alter-G treadmill,” Burge said.
“He does feel a lot better, which is really good news, but there’s some more steps we have to take first before we move outside and start progressing training load outside.”
And young forward Jack O’Sullivan is on track to return to the field within the next fortnight after suffering a hamstring injury.
“It’s looking like he will miss this weekend and next weekend and looking to return AFL Round 13 is what we’re aiming for, so another two weeks,” Burge said.
“He’s running at good speed at the moment, we’re just building and consolidating that speed before we return to skills hopefully next week.
