Hull City diehards have already been told what to expect from new signing Steven Alzate

The midfielder could make his debut on Friday night against Sheffield United

Steven Alzate became Hull City's 16th summer signing

Steven Alzate has made a permanent move to Hull City, and David Prutton thinks his Brighton and Hove Albion background will serve him well.

The 26-year-old was signed by the Tigers earlier this week after departing the Amex Stadium in the summer without a club. The Colombian international signed a two-year contract with a three-year option at City, becoming the sixteenth player to join the team amid a hectic few weeks of additions.

After making an impression at Leyton Orient, Alzate joined Albion in 2017. He went on to play 51 games on the South Coast, 43 of which were in the Premier League, indicating that the midfielder has a clear background.

Even if he hasn’t been able to contribute much with the Seagulls lately, his two stints with Standard Liege in Belgium before moving to the MKM Stadium highlighted his skill level.

“At 26, he’s a good age. “You would also like to think that given the standard of coaching at that football club for the last five, six, seven, or eight years, he’d have been in a very, very positive environment of a way of playing football. And you don’t know how a player comes out of a football club or why a player comes out of a football club, and I’m not saying that you start casting aspersions or thinking of it in a sinister way,” Prutton stated on the 1904 Club podcast.

There’s a lot to appreciate about it, but there is a hint of cynicism regarding the word “free agent,” which could be a bit harsh considering that I’ve been in a scenario where you’re suddenly labelled a free agent and have to quickly establish your identity.

“From what I understand, a modern-day football player wouldn’t just walk out of a football club and sit there kicking back while twiddling his thumbs; instead, he would have been pushing himself into the ground. There are numerous methods to stay in shape, and our only hope is that he embraces the club’s values and spirit right away. After all, there is a commitment made, at least in terms of the duration of the contract.

“Let’s approach it constructively. If you’re a cynic, it can be one of those: why hasn’t he been picked up? However, Hull City has selected him, and we wish him the best.”
