Indianapolis Star sports columnist Gregg Doyel, whose conduct during WNBA No. 1 draft pick Caitlin Clark’s introductory news conference drew national criticism for its perceived impropriety, will not be personally covering the Indiana Fever during this season.

According to Gannett spokesperson Lark-Marie Antón, the corporate owner of the Star, they do not discuss internal staffing matters. However, Antón did confirm that Gregg Doyel will not be assigned to cover the Indiana Fever.

Former Star sports writer Bob Kravitz, relying on anonymous sources, was the first to report this decision. He also mentioned a purported two-week suspension for Doyel, but Antón declined to confirm this detail. Doyel’s latest column was published on April 29th.
