Ali Al-Hamadi, a forward for AFC Wimbledon, was originally linked to Preston North End; nonetheless, he could make his debut against the Lilywhites.
That’s right, Ipswich Town finalized their January transfer for the Iraqi international. According to reports, the Tractor Boys—who are vying for consecutive promotions—may have paid £1 million up front to acquire Al-Hamadi.
He will ‘join up with his new teammates in the coming days’ following Iraq’s elimination from the Asian Cup, according to his contract, which he signed at Portman Road until 2028. The new number 16 for Town, who joined from Wycombe a year ago, scored 27 goals in 48 games for Wimbledon.
PNE and league opponent Bristol City were rumored to be “plotting” a move for Al-Hamadi in May 2023. That came after the striker kept Wimbledon in League Two despite the threat of relegation with 10 goals in 19 games. Now, he’ll try to propel Ipswich to the Premier League.
“Ali is a very exciting young striker who we feel has great attributes and a lot of room to continue to develop,” Town manager Kieran McKenna said of his new addition. He’s played regular senior football for the past 12 months and has made a big impact at AFC Wimbledon.
“He is a young, motivated, athletic, and technical player who we feel can contribute to the team right away and still have room to grow and develop in the future. He fits our recruitment profile.”
