As Lewis Hamilton continues to navigate a difficult 2024 Formula 1 season, Ferrari’s confidence in the 7-time champion has been questioned. But, despite the year’s challenges, Hamilton and Ferrari are still confident as their partnership in 2025 approaches. Hamilton hasn’t been able to meld with his W15 machinery. But despite this, he still sits 6th in the Driver Standings ahead of his teammate George Russell.
With him winning two races this season, the first at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and inheriting the second in Belgium, even though he hasn’t been confident behind the wheel, his skill and racecraft have still shone through. Yet, his journey this season has not been without formidable hurdles.
The United States Grand Prix in particular proved that he is still struggling. A spin resulting from a troublesome car saw him retiring early from the race. Meanwhile, his teammate, George Russell, also endured a strenuous weekend after crashing during Q3 of qualifying.
Mere months away from his move to Ferrari in 2025, Hamilton eyes a future rich with potential at one of Formula 1’s most storied teams. Ferrari, currently displaying solid performance, proven by a 1-2 finish at COTA, will be even more of a prize for the British driver.
F1 analyst Ted Kravitz has shared his view on the upcoming move. “Even if Ferrari weren’t winning races, he’d think it’s not [the wrong decision].” Kravitz said. “It changes doesn’t it from race to race? You can say when Mercedes had a great grand prix but Ferrari [didn’t].
You get races where Ferrari are not doing great and Mercedes are.” Kravitz continued further: “You think, Lewis might be thinking what’s going on at Ferrari. And the same thing, if you’re Ferrari, you look at a race where Lewis is having a shocker and might think ‘what’s going on with Lewis’. “The next race, Lewis is doing fantastic and Ferrari will think we’ve won, we’ve got a winner.” Looking ahead, one lingering point of uncertainty is when Hamilton will take his first test with Ferrari. Reports indicate that Mercedes will not permit Hamilton to join in the usual post-Abu Dhabi Grand Prix test.
“Everything is fine. Listen, I don’t think they are worrying about it. Lewis can’t wait to get going with Ferrari – he says that in press conferences whenever we ask him. Ferrari can’t wait to have him. It’s all good, they’re looking forward to it.” 2025 is going to be an exciting season for the sport.
