Flemming to Depart? 3 Millwall FC Players Facing Uncertain Futures at the End of August

Millwall have strengthened their squad with five new signings for the upcoming season, but Neil Harris has suggested he’s seeking further reinforcements before the transfer window closes on August 30th. The arrival of Femi Azeez from Reading has added some extra attacking options, but Harris is likely keen on additional acquisitions.

Departures have been relatively few, with Alex Mitchell moving to Charlton Athletic being the most notable exit. However, the situation could shift as the deadline approaches, especially if Millwall manages to bring in more players.

Here are three players whose futures at the club remain uncertain:

Kevin Nisbet

Millwall striker Kevin Nisbet

Recent reports indicate that Nisbet might be leaving South London this summer. The Scottish international has been linked with a move back to Aberdeen, as noted by the Daily Record. The Dons are exploring the possibility of a loan deal following Bojan Miovski’s departure.

Millwall’s forward line is currently well-stocked, featuring Duncan Watmore, who has been in excellent form with three goals in two Championship games, alongside Tom Bradshaw, Aidomo Emakhu, newly signed Macaulay Langstaff, and potential acquisition Josh Coburn from Middlesbrough.

This crowded attacking roster does not bode well for Nisbet, who joined Millwall in the summer of 2023 from Hibernian for a reported £2 million but has only scored five goals in 30 appearances so far. With Nisbet currently lower in the pecking order, a move to Aberdeen seems increasingly likely in the near future.

Zian Flemming

It wouldn’t be a transfer list without the Dutchman’s name coming up. Zian Flemming has enjoyed his first two years with the Lions becoming a fan favourite at the Den.

Whether Flemming will remain with Millwall this season remains uncertain. Back in April, there was significant interest in the attacker, with The Athletic reporting that MLS side San Jose Earthquakes were eager to sign the 26-year-old. Although that move didn’t materialize and speculation has since cooled, there’s still time before the August transfer deadline for a potential deal to be completed. Therefore, Flemming could yet depart before the deadline.

Flemming mentioned at the end of last season that he would be open to a Premier League move, so his interest could be piqued if a top-flight club makes an approach before the transfer deadline. Currently sidelined with a calf injury, which might deter potential suitors, the situation remains fluid, and it’s possible that circumstances could change.

Kyle Smith

Neil Harris - Millwall

Millwall defender Kyle Smith, a Lions academy graduate, has made strides in his bid to secure a spot in the first team. Although he’s been on the bench for all of Millwall’s opening matches this season, Smith, a promising right-wing-back, has shown potential, particularly during his loan spell with Wealdstone in the National League, where he scored twice in 13 appearances.

While there hasn’t been any concrete information about Smith being loaned out this year, manager Harris has suggested that two or three young players might be sent out on loan to aid their development. Harris mentioned to Southwark News that ideally, the team would not rely heavily on these youngsters in the early part of the season. He indicated that while one might remain with the squad to train and play in the U21s, others could be loaned out.

If Smith does move on loan, League Two might be an ideal destination for his continued growth.
