‘He just makes us so good at times’ – Neil Harris applauds Millwall forward’s contribution

MILLWALL head coach Neil Harris thinks George Honeyman’s movement and energy makes the Lions’ attack substantially better.

Honeyman was at the heart of most of Millwall’s attacks during their 1-0 win against Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday, and he set up Romain Esse’s goal.

He now has one goal and a club-leading three assists this season. Harris considers his contributions to be invaluable.

“I keep talking about George Honeyman,” Harris said. “He doesn’t get the goal return that people might want to see from a number ten but he just makes us so good at times with his movement and his forward running and his energy. Tonight he showed it.”

Honeyman was the oldest member of a youthful front four that started on Wednesday. The other three forwards were all 23 or younger, including left winger Femi Azeez.

Azeez joined the Lions from Reading during the summer transfer window, and has yet to score for Millwall despite coming close a few times against Plymouth. Harris thinks Azeez has plenty of room to grow.

“Femi showed glimpses,” Harris said. “I thought Femi grew into the game as well. I thought he found his feet after the first sort of 20 to 25 minutes.”

“He showed parts of why we signed him, why we paid the hefty transfer fee for him, and that’s where we want to get Femi to. We want to get Femi up to speed.

“We talked about those young players, I should put Femi in that category. He’s a few years older than the rest of them, but ultimately he’s new in Millwall terms.”
