“I’m not happy with how we played,” the manager of QPR said following the draw with Millwall.

Marti Cifuentes, the head coach of QPR, expressed his dissatisfaction with his team’s performance during their Saturday lunchtime 1-1 draw with Millwall at Loftus Road.

This is the third straight game that Cifuentes’ team has had to fight back from behind.

Millwall took the lead thanks to a goal from Duncan Watmore, his fifth of the year, but Rangers responded four minutes later through Michael Frey.

“I’m not satisfied with our performance…We’re capable of playing much, much better,” Cifuentes remarked. “We discussed this week how crucial it would be during the building phase, since Millwall typically plays a very narrow 4-4-2.”

Rangers had a difficult time getting past Millwall, as the west Londoners only managed two chances on goal during the ninety minutes of play. Millwall’s defense also had a quiet afternoon.

“We made some improvement in the second half, but it wasn’t good enough to really challenge them in the final third,” Cifuentes said. “The first half was very slow.”

“It was crucial that we scored first and that they lost control quickly after we did. We are aware that Millwall has by far the least amount of active time during their games. We were just not good enough to impose the manner we wanted to at home, and there are a lot of set-plays and disturbances that make it hard to establish momentum.

QPR’s propensity to trail early in games has been one of their recurrent problems this season. Rangers gave up top place for the fourth time in six Championship games, a concerning trend that Cifuentes acknowledged but was unable to completely explain.

“Finding the cause is challenging—there are numerous contributing factors,” he remarked.

It’s a topic we’ve been discussing and one we should improve on. For example, I felt that we didn’t progress as much in the second half of this game as we have in previous ones. The key is to examine oneself and determine the cause of the situation.
