Millwall Lionesses co-managers step down from their positions

Russell confirmed his resignation following the Lionesses’ 4-0 loss in the L&SERWFL Premier Division over the weekend, which Rowland had announced last week.

“I wanted to leave on a high note, so today was my final game as manager of the Millwall Lionesses. I resigned earlier [last] week.” Regretfully, it was not intended to be,” Russell wrote on X.

“This choice was not made lightly, and it has nothing to do with the girls or any of the Lionesses staff members.

“To be honest, the girls are the actual reason I have stayed for this long. learning more about them as individuals and athletes; some of them, whose juggling of playing, working, and being parents I greatly respect; or some of the younger players pursuing a career in football while juggling their time between college and employment and truly establishing themselves in a first-team setting.

“I hope every player has the best possible life and pursues their chosen career path.

“In 2018, I participated in the Women’s Championship with the club.” Over the past five years, the working group and I have been instrumental in guiding them through their rebirth in Tier 6 and promotion to Tier 5.

“I have worked with hundreds of players, six different managers, four different chairmen, and different backroom staff members. If I have had a positive influence on even one of them, I will consider my time at the Lionesses a success.”

“I want to thank all of the players, as well as the parents of the players who drove them to practice and games, the staff, and the sponsors who helped make my time enjoyable.

Rowland declared: “I have chosen to resign from my position at Millwall Lionesses. It has not been an easy decision.” Since I was a young boy, I have supported this club with all of my heart.

I won’t get into it all, but in the end, it simply proved to be too much, and I feel that my passion for teaching football has been taken away from me.

“I hope things can change and I wish them well in their future endeavours, but I won’t be the one to bring about that change.”
