Astros win but justin Verlander suffered with …

As the Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Angels 5-3, Justin Verlander earned his first victory since May.

On Saturday night, the Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Angels 5-3 thanks to a home run by Yordan Alvarez in the fifth inning, which gave Justin Verlander his first victory after recovering from a neck injury.
Jose Altuve had two hits and two runs scored, Kyle Tucker added a pinch-hit home run, and the Astros won their third straight game to maintain a 4 1/2-game lead over Seattle in the AL West.

After playing in seven games following his return from a shin injury, Tucker’s home run was his first. Since his return on September 6, he has not played in the outfield in back-to-back games.
Tucker’s impact was noted by Astros manager Joe Espada, who stated, “You’d rather have a guy like that on the field, but when you have him on the bench, you can’t wait to throw him out there.”
In five innings, Verlander (4-6) gave up two runs and four hits. Due to neck stiffness, he had been struggling since returning on August 21st, after being away for two and a half months. It was his first victory since he defeated Oakland on May 24.

Ryan Pressly pitched one and a half shutout innings to earn his fourth save.
Even after the victory, 41-year-old Verlander still wants to get better as October approaches. “At this stage, we need to start trying to catch up,” the three-time Cy Young Award winner stated.
Sadly, I had a little period of success there before I was hurt. I had kind of figured out my mechanics, but once I suffered a neck injury, I kind of lost it. I obviously lost a great deal of time. I’m making every effort to return as soon as possible to the me that was more difficult to hit than I am at the moment.
Tyler Anderson (10-13) gave up seven hits and four runs in five innings for the Angels. Eric Wagaman doubled in the fourth inning to record his first career hit and RBI.
It’s fantastic; he can now unwind a little, said manager Ron Washington.
Wagaman had two strikeouts in his first nine at-bats in the major leagues and did not get a hit.
After opening off with a bunt single, Altuve stole second base to give the Astros an early lead. After a groundout put him on third, Anderson threw a wild pitch that allowed him to score.

After Verlander walked the first two batters he saw, an RBI single by Nolan Schanuel brought in the opening run for the Angels.
