The whole NBA Finals have seen a great deal of criticism directed towards Luka Doncic.
Despite playing a significant role in the Dallas Mavericks’ victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals, Doncic hasn’t exactly been at his best while facing the Boston Celtics.
The Boston Celtics handed the Dallas Mavericks a crushing defeat in the NBA Finals. The Mavs’ postseason run came to an end with their 106-88 loss. Although Luka Doncic led Dallas in scoring, he lost patience with the refereeing during the series when he did not receive the calls he deserved. Doncic’s outspokenness appeared to carry over to his heckling of supporters during Game 5’s defeat.
Trash talk is nothing new to Luka Doncic. The legendary meme that the Mavericks star and Devin Booker made following Dallas’ victory over the Phoenix Suns in the 2022 Western Conference Semifinals is still well-known to most fans. In the Mavericks’ 123-90 victory against Phoenix in Game 7, Doncic scored 35 points. Doncic gave Booker a look during foul shots that made up for the Suns guard’s trash-talking during the series.
Doncic said after the game that he gets motivated by competitive chirping.
Doncic remarked, “I like it when people talk trash about me.” It energizes me. Man, it’s fun. There will be a lot of trash talking since it’s basketball, and I enjoy it. For me, it’s enjoyable. I enjoy playing competitive basketball. Thus, it’s enjoyable for me.”
