Spurs have not shown much interest in Trae Young.
Trae Young may be a great match for the Spurs. Sources tell Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports that San Antonio has expressed little interest in acquiring the Hawks’ point guard. Fischer’s story aligns with recent rumors that have minimized Young’s potential arrival in San Antonio.
The Hawks, who secured the top choice in the draft lottery, are expected to examine trades to break up their backcourt of Young and Dejounte Murray. According to Fischer, Atlanta surveyed the league for interest in all of their players before the February trade deadline, except for forward Jalen Johnson.
The Spurs are looking for a pick-and-roll partner for Victor Wembanyama as they lack a clear long-term floor captain. However, many league sources tell Fischer that San Antonio’s interest in trade for Young has been greatly exaggerated.
The two teams might do some business together this summer, whether or not Young is involved. San Antonio has the Nos. 4 and 8 picks, giving them an ideal trade partner if the Hawks decide to move down. Atlanta’s general manager, Landry Fields, and deputy GM, Onsi Saleh, started their careers in the Spurs’ front office after the Murray deal was made two summers ago.
The Lakers are interested in Young and currently have three first-round picks available for trade. According to Fischer, Los Angeles will need to weigh other possibilities before investing in Young. However, if Donovan Mitchell signs an extension, he may not be considered.
According to Fischer, the Lakers are considering their coaching possibilities and may not make a decision until next month. This is mostly due to their interest in J.J. Redick. According to Marc Stein, his existing contract with ESPN/ABC for the NBA Finals and postseason schedule suggests that Los Angeles’ hunt may last until June.
According to Fischer, James Borrego is widely regarded as the seasoned opponent to Redick’s campaign despite the Lakers’ extensive list of possibilities. Borrego, a former Hornets head coach and current Pelicans assistant, has been close to Anthony Davis since the latter was a rookie and Borrego was an assistant for the Hornets.
According to Fischer, Mike Brown’s contract extension talks with the Kings are expected to be in the eight-figure range, while Tom Thibodeau’s extension with the Knicks is also expected to be in the same range.
