Chaz Lanier officially signs for Vols

Transfer prospect Chaz Lanier arrives on campus for his visit to Tennessee.

Chaz Lanier’s hectic offseason continued Monday, when he arrived in Knoxville for a visit with Tennessee. The visit was filmed on social media, with Lanier stopping for a quick photo after a group of children had decorated the rock ahead of his trip. The rock read “Come home, Chaz!”

Lanier also paid a visit to Kentucky on Monday. He has already visited BYU after participating in the NBA’s G-League Camp.

After entering the NBA Draft, Lanier quickly connected with the Tennessee team. The 6-4 guard went to Ensworth Academy in the middle of the state for high school basketball. The Volunteers still need another guard after losing Dalton Knecht, Santiago Vescovi, Josiah-Jordan James, Freddie Dilione, and DJ Jefferson this summer.

Lanier, a senior at North Florida, exploded after three seasons as a reserve player. In the previous two seasons, he averaged 4.5 and 4.7 points per game, respectively, before finishing his career at North Florida with an average of 19.7. Lanier also shot an incredible 44 percent (3.3/7.5 per game) from three points.

Lanier may provide a lot of scoring punch to the Tennessee squad, which already includes sharpshooters Darlinstone Dubar and Igor Milicic. Jahmai Mashack, Jordan Gainey, and Cameron Carr are presently listed as shooting guards on the Volunteers’ depth chart.

Tennessee still has three unfilled scholarships to fill.
