Pete Thamel tweeted, “Sources: Nebraska is finalizing a six-year deal to name Washington athletic director Troy Dannen the school’s new athletic director.” “Triv Alberts, who departed for Texas A&M last week, has an immediate replacement in Dannen, who was hired by Nebraska.”
Nebraska was caught off guard by Trev Alberts’ departure, which put the athletic program in a challenging position. The Cornhuskers needed to move swiftly, and they made a wise choice in bringing Troy Dannen on board at such a short notice. He should be an excellent fit for the position in terms of supporting all Cornhuskers athletics and aiding in the rebuilding of the Nebraska football program.
A Nebraska insider reportedly stated, “He’s an Iowa guy who understands the values of Nebraska,” as reported by ESPN. “In addition, he is a current athletic director who is familiar with the Big Ten and does not need to become entangled in it.”
After becoming an AD in 2008, Dannen will make his fourth trip at Nebraska. Before spending a brief few months with Washington, he made two extended, eight-year spells at Tulane and Northern Iowa. He did assist the Huskies in selecting Jedd Fisch to be their next head football coach; however, he is now moving to Lincoln to be employed by the Cornhuskers.
The source stated, “We want to be relevant both nationally and in the conference.” He is spared from having to catch up. He served on the oversight committee for football. He is a dominant force in collegiate sports.
