Texans gain Dameon Pierce insurance amid Joe Mixon, Tank Dell injuries

While running back Dameon Pierce continues to heal from a strained hamstring, the Houston Texans are dealing with a growing number of injuries. Pierce has missed a lot of time this week as he goes through the rehabilitation process; he was noticeably absent from Wednesday’s practice.
There is increasing hope for Pierce’s recovery, according to Aaron Wilson on X, formerly known as Twitter. Sources indicate he is making steady progress. His status for the forthcoming game is still unknown, though, as the team is being cautious to prevent making the injury worse. Cam Akers is anticipated to assume the starting running back role once more in Pierce’s absence. Akers had a difficult game against the Minnesota Vikings last week, only gaining 21 yards on nine attempts and averaging a meager 2.3 yards per attempt. The Texans are expecting Akers to perform better in the coming game as he assumes more of a burden, but they are also anxiously awaiting Pierce’s return to strengthen their rushing attack.
Texans deal with a few injuries while receiving an encouraging update on Dameon Pierce. Beyond Pierce, Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon is still out due to a sprained ankle for the Texans. After receiving a blow from Chicago Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards—who was fined $16,883 for an illegal hip-drop tackle—Mixon was hurt. Even though there were early expectations for a quick recovery, Mixon hasn’t been able to play again as soon as planned. According to sources, he is still unable to cut at full speed, thus it is unclear if he will be ready for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Texans are managing Mixon week-to-week while he continues to heal, even though his injury is not thought to be permanent.
