Golden Knights forward released for trade

Jonathan Marchessault, forward with the Vegas Golden Knights, has expressed his desire to remain with the team.

Marchessault’s six-year $30 million contract with Vegas expired this season, making him a pending free agency. The forward was a member of the Golden Knights’ debut club in 2017-18 but is set to become a free agency.

Marchessault, a pending free agent, says he hopes to re-sign with the organization this summer.

“It has been a while, for sure. I have done everything I can to stay here. I don’t think so; I know I’m an important member of that organization. I’ve proven it over the years, and I’m very confident. I’d love to stay. It is my home. I was one of the guys we started this with. It is without a doubt the most proud thing I have ever done professionally. I’m pleased to be a Golden Knight. I’d prefer to be one for the rest of my life, but it’s not always within my control. It’s something my agent and Kelly will go over. Marchessault told the journalists, “I love it here, I want to stay here for sure, but we’ll see.”

Marchessault says he spoke with Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon earlier on May 7, and there is mutual interest in completing a trade, but the money must be reasonable.

“The figures are what they are, and it is up to them whether or not this is important. What is important to me, and what I am searching for, is to be part of an organization that values me. That is the only thing I want to be in. Also, I have a few years left. I still play hockey, but not for fun. I play to win. I want to be in a place that will benefit me win.

Marchessault scored 42 goals and 27 assists in 80 games, totaling 69 points.

Golden Knights Player Wants Marchessault Back

With Marchessault being an initial Golden Knight, Brayden McNabb, another original Golden Knight, hopes a deal is reached.

“Obviously, everyone understands how important he is to this team, what he means to the city, and the fan base. He stated it there, did everything, scores consistently, and that is what it is. “It’s business, but we all hope Jon is back. We love him and want him here,” McNabb stated.

Marchessault and McNabb were both members of the Stanley Cup-winning squad in Vegas in 2022.

Vegas has other key free agents.

Along with Marchessault, the Golden Knights have several major pending free agents this summer.

Forwards Anthony Mantha, Chandler Stephenson, William Carrier, and Michael Amadio are pending free agents, while Pavel Dorofeyev is a restricted free agent. Alec Martinez, the first Golden Knight, is set to become a free agent.
