Brentford took a playful jab at Nottingham Forest on TikTok following the announcement of the fixtures.

Football clubs have developed a reputation for mischief on TikTok, diverging from their more informative and engaging content on platforms like Facebook or Instagram. This trend has not been universally embraced, as evidenced when Erik ten Hag expressed bewilderment and demanded an apology from Fulham’s media team last season. This was prompted by a TikTok post poking fun at Bruno Fernandes, the team captain.

Despite such incidents, clubs continue to push boundaries on TikTok to gain traction and likes. Brentford, for instance, with nearly two million followers on the platform, are known for their playful banter directed at opponents like Dominic Solanke, Emi Martinez, and Bernardo Silva.

Notably, Nottingham Forest recently joined in, using TikTok to unveil their fixture list for the 2024-25 season with a series of viral clips representing each of their top-flight rivals. When it came to Brentford’s fixture, they humorously included a ‘VAR – checking goal’ screen accompanied by Lily Allen’s song ‘It’s Not Fair’. This nod referenced Forest’s contentious encounters with VAR and the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) during the previous season, including their outspoken criticism and requests for transparency regarding penalty decisions.

The upcoming matches between Forest and Brentford are scheduled for 21 December at Brentford’s home ground and 26 April at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground.
