The 20-year-old has committed his future to Aston Villa after a standout pre-season, earning praise from manager Unai Emery. Bogarde, who has progressed from the under-18s to the under-23s and is now on the cusp of the first team, is expected to feature occasionally this season.
According to transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano, Bogarde will sign a new deal with Villa today, signaling his commitment to the club’s long-term project. Villa rejected a bid from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest in June to retain their promising centre-back.
Bogarde impressed during a 3-2 pre-season win over Athletic Bilbao, playing well alongside Ezri Konsa. He also had a successful period on loan at Bristol Rovers, making 36 appearances.
Diego Carlos has been strongly linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer, potentially creating an opportunity for either Bogarde or a new signing to step in. However, it is understood that the former Netherlands Under-20 international will see increased playing time regardless of how the Carlos situation develops.
Forest attempting another Villa transfer swoop
Bogarde isn’t the only Aston Villa player linked with Nottingham Forest this summer. Left-back Alex Moreno is also in discussions about a potential loan move to the City Ground. The 31-year-old has become surplus to requirements after Villa’s £37.5 million signing of Ian Maatsen from Chelsea.
Birmingham World reports that Forest faces competition from two La Liga clubs and a team in the Turkish Super Lig, all of which have engaged with Villa and Moreno. The decision now rests with Moreno regarding his destination for the season.
