That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Forest would lose valuable transport and cultural links if they chose to move away from the City Ground.
Forest are currently in talks with the Nottingham City Council about the future of the City Ground and potential stadium expansion.
As revealed by Football Insider, Forest chiefs are in a “civil war” over the stadium decision, with some staff preferring a move to Toton. Forest have been offered a £250 million land lease for 250 years (£1 million per year) or the freehold of the City Ground for £10 million.
Nottingham Forest can continue stadium plans with £10m deal
Maguire believes that fans would prefer to remain at the City Ground and noted that the freehold offer would allow the club to proceed with their stadium expansion plans.
“There has been a lot of tension between Nottingham Forest and their local council. For some time, both sides have engaged in gunboat diplomacy regarding the club’s stadium plans.
“However, the benefits of Forest being offered the freehold or a 250-year lease mean that the club, if it chooses to accept the offer, can plan ahead for stadium development. I imagine this would be the fans’ preferred option compared to an out-of-town stadium, which would lose important transport and cultural links.”
