National media offer an intriguing verdict on the player Nottingham Forest has recently parted ways with.

Scotland faced Switzerland last night, aiming to recover after a 5-1 defeat by Germany in their opener on Friday.

Scott McTominay gave the Tartan Army an ideal start, but Xherdan Shaqiri equalized, resulting in a draw.

If Scotland can defeat Hungary on Sunday, they would have a strong chance of reaching the knockout stages with four points.

One notable player in action was Scott McKenna, who has recently left Forest at the end of his contract.

He played for about half an hour last night, and we have reviewed the Scottish media’s reaction to his performance for the national team.

National media deliver verdict on Scott McKenna performance

The central defender has now departed from Forest and, following Euro 2024, he will be looking to join another club.

McKenna began last season in Forest’s first team but ended it on loan with FC Copenhagen due to a contract dispute.

It’s unfortunate that a player who accomplished so much with Forest has left without the club receiving any compensation.

Last night, he substituted for Kieran Tierney, who appeared to suffer another hamstring injury, and played the final 30 minutes.

Regarding his performance, The Herald remarked: “On for the injured Tierney just over the hour mark. Faultless during his 30 minutes on the pitch.”

Although McKenna received a caution for a clumsy pull on Breel Embolo, he otherwise appeared solid as Scotland secured a valuable point.

McKenna could still do a job at Forest

This might be an unpopular opinion, but we believe there was a place in the Forest squad for McKenna, especially under Nuno Espirito Santo.

As a left-sided player, McKenna could have been an ideal backup for Murillo in the Forest lineup.

Although he may lack some pace for the Premier League, he showed signs last season of adapting to the top division.

Regardless of whether supporters agree with McKenna’s release, his contributions deserve respect.

The 27-year-old played a crucial role in the club’s promotion-winning campaign of 2021/22.

He won the club’s prestigious Player of the Year award and was named Player of the Match in the Championship Play-Off Final.

Overall, McKenna made 108 appearances for the Reds during his time at the City Ground, and it’s unfortunate how things turned out.

He finished the season with 15 appearances for Copenhagen, and it will be interesting to see if he secures a permanent contract in Denmark.
