Nottingham Poised to Acquire £21m-Rated Copa America Star Following Transfer Proposal

Nottingham Forest are said to be eyeing up Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios as work continues to strengthen Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.

Colombia international Rios has been the subject of much transfer speculation in recent weeks after helping his country reach this year’s Copa America final. And the Reds reportedly have him on their radar.

According to Turkish media outlet Aslinda, Galatasaray are “working intensively” to try to sign the 24-year-old and have had a 16 million euros (£13.4m) bid rejected. They also credit Forest and German outfit Borussia Dortmund with an interest in the player.

Rios has already been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer. Earlier this month, Brazilian publication UOL said Everton and Leicester City had asked about him. Manchester United were also said to be interested in securing his signature.

It was previously reported Palmeiras wanted 15-20m euros (£12.6-16.8m) for Rios, who is under contract until 2026. It seems they have now set his price tag at higher than that, with Aslinda reporting the Brazilian side are now looking for £21m.

Forest have already added Elliot Anderson to their midfield options ahead of the upcoming Premier League season. It is an area of the pitch where they are particularly well stocked.

Anderson is one of five signings made so far. Carlos Miguel, Eric da Silva Moreira and Nikola Milenkovic have been getting to know their new teammates after putting pen to paper. Midfielder Marko Stamenic is to spend the campaign on loan at Olympiacos.

Further signings are on the cards at the City Ground before the window closes next month. The priority will be to bolster Nuno’s resources at the top end of the pitch, with the Portuguese having made clear adding options out wide should be at the top of the to-do list.

Scouting the Brazilian market has served the club well in recent windows. Danilo joined from Palmeiras in January 2022, while Miguel and Murillo were recruited from Corinthians.
