Following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure as Tottenham manager in 2019, a number of inexperienced managers have made a bid to assume the position. Spurs made attempts to replace the vacuum with Jose Mourinho, Ryan Mason (twice), Nuno Espírito Santo, Antonio Conte, and Cristian Stellini, but none of them ever seemed to be satisfied.
With Ange Postecoglou leading the way, North London seems invigorated once again. Even though it’s early, fans already feel like they have Tottenham covered, and the Australian manager is obviously a fantastic long-term choice.
But Ange Postecoglou will soon have to make some tough choices. He will have to release a few players who are on the outs, given his plans for the summer transfer window. Regardless of the romanticism associated with them, there are players on this squad who simply aren’t good enough anymore.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s failed signing pushed Tottenham to sell
Emerson Royal is one of those players that Ange Postecoglou is probably going to sell. Football Insider claims that Tottenham is compelled to accept bids for Emerson Royal during the summer transfer window. This is due to Pedro Porro being Spurs’ first-choice full-back rather than Royal. Thus, the Brazilian will be sold in an attempt to balance the books.
This is sufficiently just. To be clear, I don’t think the player will be missed terribly. Nuno Espírito Santo signed him in 2021, but he hasn’t had much of an impact at Tottenham Hotspur, therefore Ange is being the most considerate person by letting him go.
Emerson Royal has only made the Spurs starting eleven thirty percent of the time this season, according to Transfermarkt. He has made eighteen appearances in the Premier League, most of them coming off the bench. He only really gets to start when the Spurs aren’t playing at their best.
