Nuno appeals to the Premier League while Nottingham Forest awaits the outcome of their points deduction verdict.

Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo after victory over Sheffield United

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has restated his frustration regarding Nottingham Forest’s prolonged wait for a decision on their appeal against a points deduction.

The Reds had anticipated learning the verdict before their match against Sheffield United, but the outcome remains pending. Their appeal aims to reduce a four-point deduction for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Within Premier League regulations, there is no fixed timeline for delivering appeal verdicts. An announcement is not expected until at least Tuesday.

Should Forest regain some points, Burnley faces the risk of relegation next week without playing a match. Nottingham’s recent 3-1 victory against Sheffield United placed them five points ahead of 19th-placed Burnley, with a superior goal difference.

Nuno, expressing his concerns, remarked, “I think they (the Premier League) had time to prevent what might occur. We await the final decisions and hope for 33, 32, 31, or 30 points. The discussion on league integrity is concerning; it’s not favorable for anyone. Accuracy is imperative.”

The Premier League’s deadline for resolving both Forest’s and Everton’s (who are appealing a two-point deduction for a second Profitability and Sustainability Rules breach) cases is May 24, five days after the final fixtures. However, they recently committed to revealing Everton’s appeal decision by May 19, with Forest’s expected to conclude earlier.

A stellar performance, including Callum Hudson-Odoi’s brace and Ryan Yates’ maiden top-flight goal, propelled Nuno’s squad to victory against Sheffield United, securing a three-point lead over the relegation zone.
