If reports are to be believed, one player does not seem to be very happy at Nottingham Forest.
Gonzalo Montiel would welcome a change of scenery
Well – according to Direct TV Sports – Nottingham Forest No.29 Gonzalo Montiel “would not frown upon a change of scenery” with Flamengo interested in securing his signature this summer.
The Argentina international – who scored the winning penalty against France in the 2022 World Cup final shootout – is currently on loan at the City Ground from Sevilla.
Nottingham Forest do – however – hold an option to buy Montiel on a permanent basis for just £9.4m this summer, a clause Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to trigger according to Argentina La Seleccion.
Despite that agreement with Sevilla, Nottingham Forest would still need the South American to green light a permanent switch, although that does not sound likely to happen.
Direct TV Sports added that Montiel is open to changing clubs this summer after Nottingham Forest’s miserable campaign, which has seen just six wins from 29 Premier League outings and a deduction of four points for breaching financial rules.
Nottingham Forest might have already made a decision
The situation regarding Montiel is an interesting one.
A report from Estadio Deportivo claims that Nottingham Forest’s option to buy the Argentine turns into an obligation if he plays eight more games for the club.
It comes amid a time where Montiel has not featured in any of Nottingham Forest’s last six Premier League games, and with only nine matches remaining this season, those in the boardroom might have already made a decision to avoid the obligatory clause being triggered.
Nevertheless, if the man from González Catán is not sure about staying at Nottingham Forest anyway, then perhaps a separation would make sense this summer.
