Uncovered: Nottingham Forest poised to face a substantial new penalty.

Nottingham Forest is poised to face a significant new penalty, according to sources.

According to sources cited by Football Insider, Nuno Espirito Santo is anticipated to face a touchline ban following his remarks following the Nottingham Forest and Everton match. Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke suggested that the Forest manager appeared “very angry” during his post-match press conference after his team had three penalty appeals dismissed. The club generated controversy by posting a statement on Twitter after the game, where they criticized the match officials for their role in the 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park on April 21. Forest claimed they had alerted PGMOL before the fixture that VAR official Stuart Attwell was a Luton Town fan, but the appointment remained unchanged. O’Rourke anticipates that the club will face a “substantial fine,” with Nuno and right-back Neco Williams also likely to face repercussions for their comments after the final whistle.

Nuno to receive touchline ban as Nottingham Forest fine expected

Forest have faced widespread criticism since they opted to publicly express their frustrations towards the officials. There have been reports suggesting that the club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, intended to release the statement at halftime following two denied penalty appeals in the first half. PGMOL chief Howard Webb has acknowledged that Nuno’s side should have been awarded a penalty for a foul committed by Ashley Young on Callum Hudson-Odoi in the second half.

However, this acknowledgment is unlikely to absolve Forest, Nuno, or Williams of any wrongdoing, as both the FA and the Premier League have confirmed that they are investigating the incident.

The club can ill afford additional sanctions, especially after already being docked four points this season for violating the league’s spending regulations. However, it seems probable that some form of disciplinary action will be imposed on the three entities associated with Nottingham Forest due to their responses to the controversy.
