He is set to exit the Shire.

Jack Williams, a forward with the Canberra Sharks, is supposedly a new signing for the Parramatta Eels.

Since making his NRL debut in 2018, the 28-year-old has been a crucial member of Cronulla’s forward group, making 124 appearances for the team.

During the past two years, he has played in 49 games for the Sharks in the middle third of the field, hardly missing a beat.

Williams, who spent most of the season coming off the bench and alternating between the middle and the edge, averaged 99 metres per game and over 94% of his tackles came from the defensive line.

Williams was once viewed as Cronulla’s long-term replacement for Paul Gallen, but he may not have lived up to expectations. Nevertheless, he proved to be more than capable for a considerable amount of time in the Shire, and he will help Jason Ryles’ team in 2025. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Williams has signed a three-year contract that will keep him in the west of Sydney through at least the end of 2027.

It comes at an interesting moment for the Eels, who under Ryles are expected to undergo a significant roster overhaul the following season and are uncertain about some players’ futures with the club, or in the NRL if they play.

Reagan Campbell-Gillard is one player who has left; the prop has not yet signed with a new team, but the Eels have announced his release.

That frees up a spot in the middle third, and while other players will put their hand up for it, Williams could well be in with a chance of starting alongside Junior Paulo and J’maine Hopgood in the middle third for the Eels, who struggled for both depth and talent in the middle at times this season.

It is known that Cronulla wanted to keep Williams, but because to salary limit restrictions and the fact that Addin Fonua-Blake would not be joining them the following season, they were unable to make a competitive offer.
