On Saturday, the Philadelphia Phillies continued their dominance over the Miami Marlins by securing an 8-3 victory, marking their eighth series win of the season. Once again, it was the lower part of the lineup that delivered for the Phillies, particularly Bryson Stott, who drove in four runs, including a crucial bases-clearing triple in the sixth inning. This hit proved to be pivotal as the game was tied 1-1 at that point, with the Phillies struggling to find their rhythm against Jesús Luzardo. Taijuan Walker also had an impressive performance, allowing only one run on eight hits and one walk over six innings, while striking out four.
Looking ahead to the series finale on Sunday afternoon, the Phillies aim to complete the sweep, while the Marlins hope to salvage at least one game. Left-hander Braxton Garrett, who has recently returned from the injured list, will make his season debut. In 2023, Garrett had a solid record of 9-7 with 30 starts and 156 strikeouts in 156 2/3 innings. Known for his diverse repertoire, the 26-year-old relies heavily on his 91 mph sinker and 83 mph slider, utilizing them in over half of his pitches. Last year, Garrett faced the Phillies twice, earning a 1-0 record but allowing six runs on twelve hits in 10 innings. The last encounter between Garrett and the Phillies took place during Game 2 of the Wild Card Series.
As the Phillies take on the Marlins on Mother’s Day, they aim to complete the sweep and continue their impressive run.
