“A firm favourite” – Plymouth Argyle told to offer contract extension to stop 2025 exit

The Sierra Leone international began his career in England, originally residing with Hereford FC.

During his time with Plymouth, Bundu’s status in the squad has been predominantly a squad option, making an impact off the bench.

Wayne Rooney will have to make the decision about whether to keep the 27-year-old as a part of his plans upon his contract expiry this summer.

Plymouth Argyle should offer Bundu an extensionOutside Home Park

Chris, a Plymouth Argyle fan pundit for FLW, has shared his thoughts on whether the club should renew Bundu’s contract or let him go.

He commented: “Bundu joined us on transfer deadline day during our first season back in the Championship after winning the League One title. Since then, he’s become a fan favorite, showcasing his finishing ability and delivering key assists in crucial moments. For instance, his goal against Leicester City last season was pivotal in helping us avoid relegation by a single point.

“His contract, however, is set to expire in 2025, as he initially signed a two-year deal. Many fans, myself included, believe he deserves an extension, at least for another year. Despite limited game time recently, he still offers a vital presence, especially when deployed in a wider wing position.

“Though he’s primarily a striker, I think he’s better suited to playing on the wing or in midfield, where his creativity shines. Extending his contract would be beneficial for both parties, but we’ll have to see if that happens or if the club decides to move him on.”

Bundu will likely only reach squad option status

Mustapha Bundu

It’s a tough situation for Bundu, who appears to have enjoyed his time at Argyle. However, at the height of his career, would he gain more by leaving Home Park?

While he’s made an impact as a substitute, his contributions in terms of goals and assists have been limited. Still, his strong work ethic has made him a valuable asset for Rooney in the final stages of matches.

But Bundu may be seeking more than just a supporting role.

He’s shown in the past, particularly with Aarhus, where he contributed 16 goals during the 2019/20 season, that he can be a key player. At Plymouth, he’s made a notable impact off the bench.

This season, he’s started in three of his eight appearances, with Morgan Whittaker and Ibrahim Cissokho being preferred options.

It seems likely that if things don’t change, Bundu may have to look elsewhere for regular starts, and the fan favorite might have to move on.

change, the fan favourite may have to move on.
