Ally McCoist says he and Rangers diehards will breach new hate crime law against Celtic on Sunday

Ally McCoist has attacked Scotland’s recently passed hate crime legislation, alleging that he and every other Rangers supporter might break it when the team plays Celtic on Sunday.

Scotland's hate crime law will be breached by thousands at Rangers v Celtic Old Firm, says Ally McCoist | STV News

Since it formally went into effect on Monday, the contentious bill has been the target of intense criticism. Notable individuals who have voiced concerns about the legislation’s potential to restrict free expression include JK Rowling and Elon Musk. The legislation establishes “threatening or abusive behavior that is intended to stir up hatred” against anyone based on their age, gender identity, sexual orientation, handicap, or religion.

However, McCoist—who will be working at Ibrox for this weekend’s Old Firm title match—believes that the recent legislation banning hate speech is “madness.”
