Rangers: Todd Cantwell singled out for ‘unbelievable’ praise after what he did v Hearts
Cantwell assisted Cyriel Dessers’ opener and was a menace throughout Sunday’s (21 April) Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park.
The English playmaker should have had a second assist later in the game, only for James Tavernier to fail to convert when slipped in.
Discussing that one moment in particular on BBC Sportscene [21 April, 21m 04s], Davidson said: “This is unbelievable control and composure. This is what you look for from your top players.
“He was really clever in finding space in behind. All game he looked to play in behind the two Hearts central midfielders.”
Todd Cantwell goals and assists for Rangers 2024-25
Cantwell can be a frustrating player to watch at times, but when he is on it there is no doubt that he is one of the most talented players around.
The Hearts cup tie was one such occasion, with the former Norwich City ace arguably the best player on the field, even if Dessers scored twice.
Cantwell was the one who was constantly looking to make something happen, as highlighted in his part for Dessers’ breakthrough goal.
Five goals and four assists in 26 Scottish Premiership outings is not good enough for a player of Cantwell’s quality.
However, the 26-year-old will hopefully use this performance to now push on and make a difference for the Gers in the business end of things.
Because if the Light Blues are to finish the job and seal a treble, they need Cantwell to be on the very top of his game.
