Rangers may rue decision as Manchester City and Chelsea eye Ethan Sutherland transfer
According to the Daily Record on 21 April, Manchester City and Chelsea are among a handful of clubs keen on the 17-year-old.
Sutherland, a left winger by trade, is currently plying his trade at Alloa Athletic on loan and is owned by St Mirren.
Ex Rangers youth Ethan Sutherland is having a great season
The Scotsman was on Gers’ books until he was 16 and within a year, he’s already being eyed by two of the best sides in Europe for youth development.
Sutherland showcased his exceptional talent while on loan at Alloa Athletic, contributing to their League One play-off success.
His remarkable performance has caught the attention of scouts from both City and Chelsea, who have been monitoring him closely.
Additionally, Crystal Palace are also interested in the young player
As a product of St Mirren’s youth setup, Sutherland is considered the next talent in their conveyor belt, following Dylan Reid’s successful transfer to Palace.
Stephen Robinson rates him highly, and with a year left on his contract, he is expected to return to St Mirren and compete for a first-team slot.
Rangers miss out on the transfer windfall
Given Sutherland’s potential and the interest from top clubs, Gers may come to regret not securing him as part of their own youth development system.
Losing a promising talent could lead to missed opportunities for Rangers, both in terms of future success and financial gains that could have come from a potential transfer fee.
Had he been at Ibrox, potentially on a decent deal, Gers could’ve looked to leverage a six or even seven-figure fee as City and Chelsea are among the richest clubs in the world and the Ibrox academy has a history of developing young talent.
