According to Derek Ferguson, Zak Lovelace’s most recent injury is a “real worry” for the Rangers because of the potential impact on his play.
The pundit, who had only recently returned from a lengthy layoff following a prior injury sustained while playing for the first team against St Mirren on October 7, says he detested learning of the young player’s torn hamstring while playing for the B team, which could keep him out for another two months [Rangers Review, 9 March].
Furthermore, Ferguson worries that the 18-year-old’s acute hamstring problems could have a long-term impact because pace is a crucial aspect of his game.
The setback occurs in the midst of the Rangers team’s widespread injury difficulties, which manager Philippe Clement is now expected to heavily urge to address.
“His game is based on pace so if he is picking up these hamstring injuries that is a real worry,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.Once more, he is a gifted player; the issue is with his level of fitness.
“He conducted an interview on the situation the men find themselves in and the likelihood that not enough quality work was done in the offseason to carry the team through the season.
“So, I believe he will fix that to ensure it does not happen again in the upcoming season.
“I detest it when you get that news about Lovelace, the boy, even if I knew he had been practicing and playing a few games for the B squad.
“I detest seeing boys with talent; I have talked about Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe, and now this young guy Lovelace is talented, too, but I really hope he does not get injured too often. It is a shame.”
Former Millwall forward suffers consecutive injuries at Rangers
When their contracts expire this summer, Roofe and Jack are probably going to quit the team due to their ongoing struggles, and the early indications are becoming more and more worrying for Lovelace’s Rangers future.
He played four senior games for the B team last season and was in great shape, but because he missed so much time last season, his growth has really stopped.
Due to first-team injury concerns, Clement has played fewer games than he should have, which has cost him a significant chance to compete with seniors like Ross McCausland.
Lovelace’s misery this season is very much part of the club’s unfortunate fitness fate, though, as players like Kieran Dowell and Tom Lawrence have also had terrible injury luck in their brief stints at Ibrox.
