According to the Daily Record, Ridvan Yilmaz’s injury does not appear to be serious, therefore he might be available when Rangers play Celtic on April 7.
The newspaper announced late on March 25 on its website that the Turk, who was sidelined due to injury during Friday’s (March 22) national team match against Hungary, may give Philippe Clement a major boost if he could participate in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox.
Considering the number of other injured players, his absence would have been devastating, but he is apparently optimistic about making a comeback in as short as a week.
We are hoping that the recuperation process will only take seven to ten days, according to a source close to the defender. Thankfully, the damage is not too serious.
“We hope he will be in the squad or, better yet, on the pitch against Celtic, but we do not want to put an exact date on it.”
An important Rangers injury boost was given the Old Firm by Philippe Clement.
Although it would obviously be preferable if the 22-year-old had not sustained any injuries while serving abroad, the news that he would likely recover quickly should be very welcomed.
If Yilmaz was unavailable, Borna Barisic—who appears certain to depart the team for the Turkish Super Lig in the summer—would be in line for a Rangers farewell.
Additionally, the Croatian has a history of unreliability in pivotal Celtic matches. If the Turk can return to the starting lineup, it will give supporters more confidence, especially since the Scottish Premiership title race may depend on this encounter.
For the Old Firm game, Clement might even witness the eagerly anticipated comeback of Abdallah Sima in some capacity, which would be a much-needed lift.
Rangers’ first big test is against Hibs on March 30. However, because of the postponed trip to Dundee, they will probably start the derby down in the SPFL standings, so the more resources the manager has at his disposal in the midst of a season filled with unending fitness setbacks, the better.
