The club is now prepared to offload a player, and discussions are underway with Rangers for a permanent transfer.

On May 31st, Radio Punto journalist Ferreira disclosed in a post that Rangers, along with another club outside of Argentina, are in discussions with Godoy Cruz regarding the potential transfer of Thomas Galdames. This comes as Godoy Cruz’s last opportunity in the current transfer window to secure a fee for the 25-year-old left-back.

Galdames caught the attention of Rangers during an impressive performance, possibly his final game for the club, where they secured a 4-0 victory over El Porvenir. His contract is set to expire on December 31st, prompting all parties involved to seek a deal promptly.

Ferreira explained, “Thomas Galdames has a contract with Godoy Cruz until December 31st, and as of now, there has been no agreement to extend it. This is why the club is looking to transfer him in this transfer window to generate some financial return. They are currently negotiating with Rangers and another foreign club. If they receive formal offers, he will depart.”

Rangers in full transfer market mode

Rangers are fully engaged in their summer recruitment efforts, understanding the significant challenge ahead for Philippe Clement and the team. Despite the similarity in positional profiles between Chilean full-back Galdames and their first summer signing Jefte, the club anticipates a wave of departures from Ibrox and thus requires cover across various positions on the field.

While Rangers had hoped to secure the signing of Panama international Jose Cordoba, it appears he is leaning towards a move to England, with Norwich City showing interest. Therefore, the Light Blues are swiftly shifting their focus to other potential targets.

A representative from Rangers is scheduled to attend the TransferRoom recruitment drive in Mexico next week, which is being likened to a transfer “speed-date” event, enabling the club to further explore opportunities beyond Europe.

Fans can anticipate the arrival of three or four additional players through the doors of Ibrox within the next couple of weeks as Rangers continue their active recruitment drive.
