Following claims made by Celtic icon John Hartson that Rangers striker Fabricio Silva “took a dive” during the Scottish Cup semi-final, Neil McCann has jumped to Silva’s defense.
Cyriel Dessers had a chance to cut the ball back to the Portuguese attacker with the Light Blues leading Hearts by two goals, but he passed it up, leaving the Wolves loanee with an open goal. However, Silva unexpectedly gave way in the box without any resistance from the Hearts defense, leaving the Rangers player stunned and commentators perplexed as to what went wrong at the national stadium.
Days later, Rangers hero McCann told Go Radio, “I have no idea what happened,” admitting that he was still having trouble processing what had happened. I’d be interested in hearing his perspective. Has he genuinely spoken up about this?” Hartson, though, provided his own interpretation of the absurd event.

“It almost looks like he ran past the ball, but it was really strange because there was nobody near him,” the man stated. “It was behind him, so he couldn’t get a clear shot on goal, so he just went over.” He nearly fell or stumbled over his own foot, so it wasn’t like he had a chance of getting anything.”
McCann strapped back, not having the diver tag on. “He’s not making a plea for anything. Recognize what I mean?
Hartson continued by bringing up Silva’s antics from earlier this month’s match against Celtic. “I know, but it’s embarrassing,” he remarked. He needs to speak with even his own players. Everything was thumping on the floor following the Celtics game. It’s absurd. It’s embarrassing, and everyone on the ground is thinking, “What are you doing, buddy?” And the next week, he repeats the action.”
McCann would, however, qualify his statement regarding the Scottish Cup semifinal collapse in light of his argument. Hartson concluded: “We can’t really prove that he dived at the weekend but it was a gaping goal, nobody was behind him.”
