This evening from the Smoothie King Center, the New Orleans Pelicans (45-31), who are currently fighting for a top-six berth in the Western Conference, will play the San Antonio Spurs (18-58).
With a few games remaining, New Orleans is now tied with Phoenix and one game behind Dallas, the No. 5 seed, in the Western Conference. This game is considered as a must-win for the Pelicans because they are also fending off a surge from the Sacramento Kings (one game behind) and the Los Angeles Lakers (one and a half games behind).

The match brings New Orleans’ six-game home stand to an end. Many had predicted the Pelicans would secure a postseason berth during this stretch. To the dismay of its supporters, New Orleans is currently on a three-game losing run.
To exacerbate the situation, forward Zion Williamson left the Orlando Magic game on Wednesday night early due to a left hand injury. While Brandon Ingram is still sidelined due to a left knee ailment, Williamson is questionable versus San Antonio. Without any of them, the Pelicans could certainly overcome the lowly Spurs, but New Orleans needs to win in order to stay with the group and attempt to avoid a play-in game.
Ingram’s replacement, guard C.J. McCollum, has been filling in, and if Williamson is unable to play, he will be expected to take on further responsibilities. In the most recent game against Orlando, McCollum finished with 36 points and 10 rebounds.
