Sheffield United fans could be in for some significant contract updates within the next 72 hours.

With Sheffield United officially relegated from the Premier League, they’re gearing up for next season’s Championship promotion push. The club has over ten players out of contract, with manager Chris Wilder indicating that options have been considered for some, including Ben Osborn and Jayden Bogle.

In a recent press conference, Wilder confirmed, “We’re taking up Ben Osborn’s option and there’s another three or four.” He mentioned discussing these options with the club’s owner and board and expects announcements to be made post-weekend.

Players like Wes Foderingham, Adam Davies, John Egan, Chris Basham, George Baldock, Max Lowe, Oliver Norwood, Oli McBurnie, as well as academy products Jordan Amissah, Rhys Norrington-Davies, and Daniel Jebbison, are also out of contract.

Despite Jebbison’s lack of game time due to a preseason health issue, Wilder expressed confidence in retaining him, stating, “We’ve offered a really strong contract to [Jebbison].” Wilder anticipates finalizing contracts within the next 48-72 hours.

The sentiment among some Sheffield United fans regarding Daniel Jebbison’s potential contract renewal reflects a common debate in football. While some argue that Jebbison hasn’t demonstrated enough to warrant a new contract, others advocate for patience, highlighting examples like Oliver Arblaster and Iliman Ndiaye, who broke into the first team at later ages and found success.

Arblaster’s seamless transition to Premier League football at 19 and Ndiaye’s delayed breakthrough at 22 serve as reminders that players develop at different rates. Therefore, writing off Jebbison at 20 may be premature.

Moreover, retaining academy products like Jebbison is crucial for the club’s long-term success. Letting them go for free could result in missed opportunities for significant profit in the future.
