Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru might be heading to Italy this summer in a seven-figure move. The 23-year-old has excelled in Turkey since joining Hatayspor a year ago, contributing 15 goals and assists, which played a crucial role in their Super Lig survival. He also made his debut for Nigeria in a win over Mozambique in October.
After aiding Hatayspor in staying in the Turkish top flight, Dele-Bashiru’s future might lie elsewhere, with Serie A giants Lazio reportedly making an offer to sign him for the 2024/25 season, according to Hatayspor manager Özhan Pulat.
Currently on international duty with the Super Eagles for World Cup Qualifiers against South Africa and Benin, Dele-Bashiru commented, “For now I’m only focused on my national team’s next commitments – after playing these matches, also hoping to win, I will talk to my agent and we’ll deal with my future and the market rumours.”
Reports in Italy suggest it will take around €6 million (plus bonuses) to secure his signature, a situation that might be frustrating for Sheffield Wednesday, who lost him for a minimal compensation fee less than a year ago. Dele-Bashiru made 86 appearances for the Owls, with his final game being at Wembley, where the club earned promotion back to the Championship.
