Sheffield Wednesday received a boost as a key figure, previously linked with moves to Preston North End and Sunderland.

Sunderland and PNE-linked man signs new deal

In January, Preston North End showed interest in Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle. The 22-year-old impressed in his breakthrough campaign, playing in every League One game for the Latics last season. Despite initial interest from Preston, a move never materialized, and links to Sunderland and Birmingham City followed. However, Wigan has now secured Tickle’s future by signing him to a new four-year contract, keeping him at the DW Stadium until 2028.

Wigan’s first team boss, Shaun Maloney, praised Tickle’s performance, highlighting his achievement of keeping 18 clean sheets and becoming the first homegrown Latics player to make his England U21 debut since Leighton Baines. Maloney emphasized Tickle’s exceptional talent and expressed excitement about working with him to continue his development over the coming years.

Sheffield Wednesday manager boost

Danny Rohl made a remarkable impact at Hillsborough last season, leading to speculation surrounding the Sheffield Wednesday boss. However, reports from our colleagues at the Sheffield Star suggest that the Owls are close to reaching an agreement on a new contract with the German.

Rohl reportedly met with owner Dejphon Chansiri in London on Wednesday to discuss a new deal and plans for the future, ahead of a potential first full season with the club. Although some important details in the agreement still need to be ironed out, a deal is said to be nearing finalization.

Watford announce departures

The Hornets have secured full-back Jeremy Ngakia on a new three-year contract, with a one-year option included. Since joining from West Ham in 2020, the 23-year-old has made 69 league appearances for the club.

Striker linked with Championship duo

Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Motherwell striker Theo Bair. The 24-year-old, who joined Motherwell last summer on a free transfer, impressed in the Scottish Premiership last season, netting 15 goals.

According to the Daily Mail, Bair could command a fee of around £800,000, with one year remaining on his current contract. The Canadian international, who has made a couple of appearances for his national team, previously spent 18 months at St Johnstone before joining Motherwell. Before his stint in Scotland, Bair spent two years in the senior setup of Vancouver Whitecaps.
