Exclusive-Southampton coach Russell Martin steps down mid-season for championship boss

Due to prominent errors made by Martin when playing out of the back, which have cost the team crucial points, the Southampton board is beginning to have doubts about his style of play.

Since rejoining the English top division, the South Coast team has lost all four of their Premier League games; they are only ahead of Everton due to a better goal differential.

Eustace, 44, has made a name for himself in the Championship after having successful stints with Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers.

Before being fired in favor of Wayne Rooney, the English manager led Birmingham to as high as sixth place in the Championship. Ultimately, at the end of the previous season, the team was relegated to League One.

Blackburn, who currently sit in third place in the Championship with three victories and two draws from their first five games, is one of three unbeaten teams left.

On Sunday, September 22, at 12 p.m., they will go to Preston North End, their rivals in Lancashire.

Southampton’s early six-pointer against fellow recently promoted team Ipswich takes place at St Mary’s on Saturday, September 21.

Southampton will be hoping to earn their first points of the season after defeating Everton on penalties in the League Cup on Tuesday, September 17.
