Southampton Failed With Bid For UEFA Conference League Club's Striker | OneFootball

Southampton was turned down for Conference League player Fotis Ioannidis, a forward who is currently with Panathinaikos, despite making a late offer.

Russell Martin’s team has only managed one goal and five goals conceded in three league games since being promoted to the top tier.

Towards the end of the transfer window, Saints needed further offensive reinforcements, thus they signed Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer.

According to Greek daily Sportime, they decided to go all out for Greek attacker Ioannidis and made Panathinaikos an offer of €30 million.

With bonuses in addition to the €30 million guaranteed fee, Panathinaikos promptly turned down the offer.

Saints were ultimately unable to sign a true striker because they were denied the opportunity to enhance their offer.

Paul Onuachu, who scored fifteen goals for Trabzonspor in the previous season, is still with the team but may potentially depart.

Ioannidis scored five goals in six Europa League games for Panathinaikos last season, capping an outstanding year for the Greek team.

This summer, Panathinaikos was eliminated from the Europa League qualifiers, but they are already in the Conference League league stage, where Ioannidis is expected to perform well once more.
